University of Florida Landscape Master Plan
Transforming the historic heart of the campus
In addition to providing an overall plan, guidelines, and standards for the campus landscape architecture, IBI developed conceptual designs for selected areas of the campus. The thirteen areas, selected jointly by the University and our design team, were chosen for their significance to the campus, and the applicability of their design solution to other campus areas.
We developed the conceptual designs and the overall master plan with the University’s goals in mind. Established by its recently completed Strategic Development Plan, UF’s goal of preeminence is reflected in our proposed transformation of the historic heart of the campus into a more walkable and welcoming environment for the University and the greater community. To that end, we expanded the impact of its high-quality and historic landscape through:
- the conversion of roadways to shared paths;
- the interconnection of discontinuous open spaces and plazas;
- the addition of new gathering spaces; and
- the enhancement of the areas immediately surrounding UF’s recently renovated Plaza of the Americas.
