BC Women’s and BC Children’s Hospital

IBI Group has been involved with BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospital since 1995 through the transformation of their campus, redevelopment of key clinical needs and infrastructure upgrades. The process has led us to be part of a joint venture engaged in the long-range strategic planning process and various subsequent master plans.

BC Women’s and BC Children’s Hospital is undergoing a complete, three-phase Redevelopment Project with a vision for a patient-centered campus focused on quality, excellence and innovation. IBI Group has worked on the three-phase, multimillion-dollar redevelopment for over 20 years, with work on Phase 3 currently underway and expected for completion in 2018.

IBI Group worked as the Prime Consultant for Phase 1 of the Redevelopment Project, implementing over $40 million of renovation projects across the campus. The work has involved approximately 80,000 sq. ft. of renovations phased over a five-year period, with more than 80 programs and services relocated. University of British Columbia programs and services were also integrated into the hospital to facilitate the site as an academic affiliate.

Completing our role for Phase 1, IBI Group commenced work as the Compliance Role Architect for the $400 million Phase 2 Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC). The new, 59,400 m2 facility is designed and constructed as a Private Public Partnership and incorporates various program components, including a Renal Dialysis Unit, Emergency Department, Procedures Suite and Oncology/Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant.

IBI Group assisted the Provincial Health Services Authority in completing the Phase 3 Feasibility Study and Business Case, which has led to the next phase in this project. As Prime Consultant for Phase 3, work included the relocation of Sunny Hill maternity program, a Single Room Maternity Care Unit, and BC Women’s Perinatal Substance Use Program.

All renovation work had to be carefully planned as the hospital remained fully functional 24/7. Our staff worked closely with the Authority, user groups and facilities maintenance staff to develop phasing and infection control strategies to enable the continuous operations.

As a province-wide referral centre, BC Women’s and BC Children’s Hospital will achieve a new standard of health care design and delivery, meeting the growing demand and providing quality access to an interdisciplinary team.

We’re finding new ways to put patients first, and transforming the way we think about aging in place.
